A 30 s video holds about 75 words at this pace.

Target length

Pace, in words a minute

How to use it

  1. 01

    Paste your script

Only the words you will say. Leave out stage directions and on-screen text that is not spoken.

  2. 02

    Choose a pace

Natural suits a talking-head video. Fast is closer to an energetic voiceover; slow leaves room for the picture.

  3. 03

    Set a target

Pick the length you are aiming for and the timer shows how far over or under you are, in words.

How the timer estimates

It counts the words and divides by a speaking pace in words a minute: 130 for slow, 150 for natural and 180 for fast. Real delivery varies with pauses, emphasis and the speaker, so read the result as an estimate and time one read-through aloud before you record.

Why word count matters for short video

A short video has no slack. A script written for a minute that takes eighty seconds to say gets rushed in the edit or loses its ending. Writing to a word budget keeps the hook, the point and the call to action all inside the length you planned.
